A Major Update for Clanfolk
Update 20 - Bears! is the newest major update to come to Clanfolk, and as the name suggests, adds bears to the game. Before even starting this update, Blorf fell down the rabbit hole of bear research and decided he wanted the bears to have a unique set of drives and reactions, similar to real bears, to avoid the new addition from simply being aggressive monsters. The bears are also fully tracked, just like people, and remember everything that has happened to them. This allows them to learn good and bad behaviors and for you to have a direct impact on how the bears learn to interact with your homestead.
Currently, there are two bears in the game, Artis and Mathan, with their own unique habits, behaviors, likes, and dislikes. Artis is a younger bear, less comfortable around humans, and she does not currently have any bad or aggressive habits towards people. Mathan, on the other hand, is much older, larger, and less patient with humans, but he has an intense fear of fire.
Of course, this patch adds a few ways for you to directly interact with bears as well. Torches are a great passive defense against errant bears, but if one wanders too close for comfort, you have a few options. The new Wecht drum is not only a fun pastime instrument for your people to play and an important tool, but is also very loud and can cause bears to flee. Bagpipes also have a similar effect on bears. Deerhounds also will assist in scaring bears if set to guard mode and if your homestead owns one. They can also intervene in a conflict between a human and bear as a buffer against a bear's charge.
